Support Services

We measure academic success one student at a time!

Support Services

There are various support services available to M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing students to assist them with their academic endeavors, such as those that relate to test-taking, study skills and subject-specific issues.

Additional sources of assistance and information are available from Villanova’s web site, the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing web site, the Undergraduate Catalog, and the College of Nursing Student Handbook. Most importantly, students should take the responsibility to meet with their advisor in the  Fitzpatrick College of Nursing on an ongoing basis. In addition to providing assistance with registration and course selection, the advisor is able to direct the student to appropriate resources for academic, financial, health or personal concerns.

To supplement the advising process, our Nursing Student Success & Retention Advisor is available during regular business hours to assist students with immediate advising and other academic issues. This advisor is also the link for our multicultural students to the resources offered by the University's Center for Multicultural Affairs.

The following video clips featuring our Nursing Student Resource Advisor, Patty Abdalla, were recorded to assist in achieving academic success. We hope you take advantage of the advice from our experts.

In addition, the Nursing Student Resource Advisor routinely offers a program for nursing students on learning their unique learning style.  This video clip describes the benefits of this program, as it provides techniques to assist students in using their brain's preferred method to assimilate information in a classroom environment, extract information from written materials, and study using techniques which assist in placing information in long term memory.

Tutors

At the beginning of each semester, the Nursing Student Resource Advisor develops a list of student tutors for Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology and Pharmacology. The list of available tutors may be obtained from your advisor, the Nursing Student Resource Advisor James.vines@villanova.edu or on the Nursing Student Materials site. Additional tutors may also be identified by the Biology and Chemistry Departments.

Test-Taking Practice Sessions

During the academic year, the Nursing Student Resource Advisor and course faculty offer test taking practice sessions.  These practice sessions help students build test taking skills and support their efforts in becoming better critical thinkers in a test environment. For more information on these sessions, contact your nursing course leader or the Nursing Student Resource Advisor.
