"Writing Through Conflict" (an embedded travel course)
This workshop course is offered each spring. As part of the course, students travel to the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queens University, Belfast over semester break for a week of workshops, seminars, and symposiums with Irish writers.
Queens University offers a special ₤5,000 per year scholarship to a Villanova student who wants to earn a master’s degree in creative Writing at the Seamus Heaney Centre.
Writers need readers, and the creative writing workshop offers just that: supportive and critique-oriented readers.
A core component of the Minor in Creative Writing is the writing workshop. In workshop courses, students produce original creative pieces, present them to an audience of published faculty and peers, and revise their work to produce polished stories, poetry, and creative non-fiction. For those who wish to grow as writers and perhaps publish their work, this is an invaluable opportunity for audience feedback on works in progress. Workshop courses are offered every semester and are taught by published novelists and poets.
