Villanova Nurses present in Prague

Villanova nursing faculty and alumni gathered in Europe to share expertise in research at the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International 24th International Nursing Research Congress held in Prague, Czech Republic on July 22-26.

Bette Mariani, PhD, RN, assistant professor of Nursing , presented a paper  Development and Psychometric Testing of the Mariani Nursing Career Satisfaction Scale©. She was also a co-presenter of the paper “The Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy: Mid-Academy Outcomes in Three Domains.” Presenters were Deborah Cleeter, Anthony Forrester, Laura Dzurec, Ainslie Nibert, Barbara Patterson and Bette Mariani.

Nancy Sharts-Hopko, PhD, RN, FAAN, professor and director of the PhD program, presented a paper “Falls, Bone and Joint Injuries, and Vision Status among Adult Women Respondents to the 2008 National Health Interview Survey.”

Suzanne Smeltzer, EdD, RN, FAAN professor and director of the Center for Nursing Research, presented a paper “Preventive Health Screening Disparities by Disability, Gender and Race.”

Alumni presented both papers and posters. They included:

Theresa Adams, MSN ‘ 95, PhD  presented “The Evaluation of Service-Learning as an Innovative Strategy to Enhance BSN Students’ Transcultural Self-Efficacy.”

Abdulla Al-Rubaiey, MSN ’97 co presented “Educational collaboration between Oman and Wales: The effect of a Cardiff BSC on Omani nurses’ professional development and clinical practice,” with Dr. Dianne S. Watkins.

Anne M. Fink, PhD ’11 presented “The Role of Culture in Primaparous Puerto Rican Women’s Postpartum Infant and Self-Care.”

Misae Ito, MSN ’99, PhD  presented a poster, “Decision-Making Preferences in Heatlhcare toward a Competent Patient and Family Involvement,” with Keio Hattori, Kyoko Murakami, and Takahiro Kakeda.

Pennie Sessler Branden, PhD ’12 presented “The Nurse as Advocate: A Grounded Theory Perspective.”

Lisa Thiemann, PhD ’12 presented “Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Nonsurgical Pain Management Infection Prevention Competencies.”
