Associate Professor Michelle Kelly, PhD, CRNP, CNE, FAANP, FAAN has been named Co-Director of the Mid-Atlantic Center for Children’s Environmental Health (MACCHE), Region 3 Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit—PEHSU, at the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing.

Dr. Kelly has been working with MACCHE to address environmental health concerns of parents, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, nurses and community members. She recently traveled to West Virginia on behalf of MACCHE to present to nursing students and collaborate with Harrison County Department of Health regarding lead risks and exposures in the area.

An American Academy of Nursing Fellow, Dr. Kelly is a neonatal and pediatric nurse practitioner, educator and scientist who has dedicated her professional career to developing and disseminating the evidence basis for improved health of preterm survivors throughout their lifespan.

“Michelle’s clinical expertise with neonates and children will be a strong addition to the MACCHE team,” said Professor Ruth McDermott-Levy, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, Co-Director, Mid-Atlantic Center for Children's Health and the Environment.

Dr. Kelly replaces Laura Anderko, PhD, RN, who has stepped down after 10 years of leadership with MACCHE. Anderko was the first nurse to lead a PEHSU, and her expertise laid the foundation for nursing leadership in other regional PEHSUs (now at Emory University and University of Washington).
