Student Advisory Council
The advisory council was created to provide faculty feedback on new initiatives, give students a platform to organize events and foster a greater sense of departmental community. Students interested in getting involved should contact the department chair.
Cohort Internship Experience
The Department gives credit for off-campus internships and supplements them with an academic component. Each semester, one of our faculty members supervises all interning students. Students meet intermittently as a group to share experiences and work towards their final internship project.
Internships are a popular complement to classroom studies. They permit you to sample a career before committing yourself to it and give you a look inside a political organization. They add to your personal growth, enhance your resume – and can be fun. Our students have interned at organizations including:
- Catholic Social Services Archdiocese of Philadelphia
- Clean Water Action
- Foreign Policy Research Institute, Legal Advocacy
- Civil Criminal Courts Counsel
- State House and Senate offices and election campaigns
- City Council offices and election campaigns
- U.S. House and Senate offices and election campaigns
Washington Minimester
The three-week Minimester program is held in Washington D.C. in from late May to early June. Students can earn three credits meeting policy makers, lobbyists, pollsters, staffers, and other Washington actors who influence the political process from behind the scenes. The program provides need-based fellowships for up to three students.

The Prague Summer Program in Politics, Culture and Literature is a six week, six credit program taught by Villanova faculty in the heart of Prague. Students take a course on communism and post-communism and a course on politics and literature in the Czech Republic. The program offers two to three need-based fellowships.
The ESPOL Program at the Catholic University of Lille, France is a semester-long student exchange program in which Villanova undergraduates can earn up to 15 credits. The program also brings Lille students to Villanova and involves an annual faculty exchange.
