ADMISSION INFORMATION

The Second Degree Accelerated BSN track begins each year in May, with two application deadlines:

  1. Early Decision: June 30
  2. Standard Decision: October 1

Completed applications are reviewed several times throughout the year.

 

 

 

ADMISSION DETAILS

 

  1. Complete a Second Degree Accelerated Track Request Information form. The information on this form is required so that we can email the results of a transcript review.
  2. Email copies of all college or university transcripts for a preliminary review to determine prerequisites to kristin.barkdoll@villanova.edu. (Copies of transcripts are acceptable for the preliminary review. If you complete an application, official transcripts are required)
  3. A faculty or staff member will review your unofficial transcripts to determine where you stand in relation to the prerequisite requirements and email the results of a transcript review within 7-10 business days.

If you decide to apply to Villanova:

  1. Submit the online application, supporting documents (details of required documents are provided below in the Application Checklist) and application fee before the June 30 (Early Decision Deadline) or no later than the October 1 (Standard/Final Decision Deadline). Interested applicants may apply before all prerequisites are completed. 
  2. Official transcripts should be sent electronically to: kristin.barkdoll@villanova.edu. Electronic transcripts must be sent directly from the university or college to be considered official. If electronic transcripts are not available, the program’s mailing address is:

Admission to the Second Degree Accelerated BSN track is completed by the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing and not the University’s Admission Office. It is critical that transcripts are sent directly to Kristin Barkdoll either electronically, or via mail. If sent to University Admissions, they may not be received.

  • A completed online application by the June 30 or no later than the October 1 deadline (with a copy of your green card, if necessary).
  • Application fee of $80.00 (nonrefundable)
  • Essay: "Why are you choosing to enter the field of nursing at this time in your life or career?"
  • Resume
  • Please note: Recommendation letters are not a requirement for the application process.
  • Official transcripts from all previous institutions of higher education. Request the Registrar’s Office from all colleges you have attended to forward an official transcript, You do not have to list courses in progress. High School Transcripts are NOT REQUIRED.

Other requirements as appropriate:

  • TOEFL scores (international students whose degree was earned outside the United States only)
  • Foreign transcript evaluations (international transcripts only)
  • Course descriptions from previous colleges attended, if requested by the Program Director, Faculty or Program Coordinator.

Once all application requirements are met, an invitation for an interview with one of our Second Degree Accelerated BSN faculty will be emailed to those applicants who meet Villanova's minimum requirements (GPA 3.0 and strong science prerequisite grades).

Completed applications will be reviewed periodically before the Standard Application October 1 deadline.

Applicants will be notified in writing of the Admission Committee's decision.

All of the above courses must be taken prior to starting the Accelerated BSN. You may apply to the program before finishing all prerequisites.

When a Second Degree applicant is admitted to the track, the transcript is reviewed for transfer of credit. 

Second Degree students must fulfill the same course requirements as other students in Villanova University's BSN Program which includes a total of 28 credits in Physical Science, 18 credits in Humanities (to include a philosophy equivalent) and 12 credits in Social/Behavioral Sciences (to include a general psychology equivalent).

Credits for courses that have been taken at another college or university may be transferred if the course is required in the program and if the grade is "C" or above. In order to determine course equivalency, the course description from the catalog of the outside institution is compared to the course description in the Villanova University catalog; course syllabi are reviewed if necessary.
