MLK JR. DAY OF SERVICE
MLK JR. DAY OF SERVICE
January 16, 2023: Celebrating Our 16th Year!
Make this a holiday where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to improve lives, bridge social barriers and move our nation closer to the "Beloved Community" that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. envisioned. Join members of the University community to volunteer throughout Greater Philadelphia and on our campus.
Thank you to our 2023 Bronze Sponsor:
MLK DAY OF SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
The MLK Day of Service's off-campus component began when several Black students were inspired to give back to their respective communities in Philadelphia. Over 15 years, it has grown into a service initiative that partners with multiple locations in the Greater Philadelphia area. Recently, up to 32 community locations have been served.
Beautifying a community hall or church, serving food or participating in a community activity to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy are just a few examples of activities that have taken place at off-campus locations. Working with groups that have similar missions allows volunteers the opportunity to participate in meaningful service while strengthening relationships.
Become a sponsor of this year's Martin Luther King Day of Service—your sponsorship is fully tax-deductible.

MLK DAY OF SERVICE COMMITTEE
The MLK Day of Service Committee actively works to plan and coordinate activities associated with the MLK Day of Service. Committee members must:
- Attend the MLK Day of Service;
- Be present at weekly general committee meetings;
- Meet with sub-committee members;
- Fulfill additional responsibilities associated with each position.
The Vice President works with the committee on logistics and operations while ensuring the MLK Day of Service runs smoothly.
The Administration Chair preps and updates the master calendar with tasks for the committee. This position also coordinates transportation and completion of clearances with the Department of Public Safety and works alongside Dining Services for food and drink needs.
Publicity and Registration Committee
The Publicity and Registration Committee promotes the MLK Day of Service through digital and print media and designs merchandise for the day. This committee also activates applications for volunteer and leader registration and serves as a point of contact for questions about the registration process.
The Off-Campus Committee sources and communicates with off-campus sites for the MLK Day of Service. Sites can be determined from pre-existing partners or via a list from STOV. This committee also keeps a list of supplies and volunteers needed for each site.
The Leadership Committee trains site leaders to lead reflections and handle scenarios during the MLK Day of Service. This position requires coordination with group leaders in addition to creating and distributing leader packets containing information about sites and groups. This committee is also responsible for coordinating the Partnership Dinner with advisers.
The Finance Committee raises funds and seeks sponsorship opportunities for MLK Day of Service operations in addition to overseeing budgets and spending.
Let's Move Camp Committee
The Let's Move Camp Committee contacts local elementary schools to participate in our activities, keeps a running list of students in attendance and contacts Villanova athletic teams and student organizations to participate in the MLK Day of Service.
Congratulations to Rashel Batista, MLK Day of Service Executive Board President.
