Meet Graduate Student Ambassador Julia Micklo
Julia Micklo
"I fell in love with Villanova my first time stepping foot on campus as an undergraduate and that love has only grown in my time as a graduate student here. There is always something to get involved with and the relationships you will make here will last a lifetime."
Describe your interest in your academic program and what you hope to gain from it.
I became very interested in the field of Human Resources after taking an Industrial-Organization Psychology course in undergrad. I love the idea of bettering an organization from the inside while being a resource for fellow employees.
What is your favorite course you’ve taken so far? If you are in your first year, what course are you most looking forward to in your program? Why?
My favorite course I have taken in the program so far would have to be Training and Development. I see myself as a lifelong learner, and it was fascinating to learn how to bring that value into the workplace.
What are a few things you would like to share with prospective students regarding the Villanova student experience?
The Villanova community really is so kind and uplifting. Everyone, students, faculty and staff, will all come together to support events happening across campus. Everyone at Villanova really wants to see you succeed, most importantly your professors. As a student, I have been able to go to my professors as a resource for class, professional networking and personal improvement.
How do you maintain a good school/life balance?
Plan ahead whenever possible. Finding the schedule that works best for you is the key to being effective in succeeding in your schoolwork and maintaining your personal life.
If you’re living around Villanova, what are one to two “must do” experiences you would suggest to students new to Villanova and the surrounding area including Philadelphia?
Visit Longwood Gardens, especially during the holiday season! The lights are beautiful, and it is great to walk around with friends and family. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is another must do! They are constantly changing exhibits, so there is always something new to see.
