APPLYING TO VILLANOVA

Applicants to graduate programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Science are admitted wholly on individual merit. Villanova University does not discriminate against anyone seeking admission on the basis of their race, color, national or ethnic origin, religion, or sex.

Bachelor’s Degree
All applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by one of the regional accrediting agencies. All applicants in their last year of undergraduate study at the time of application should provide a transcript of all courses completed to date. A final transcript must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office listing the degree received and the date the degree was conferred.

Pre-Requisites
All applicants must have completed the undergraduate prerequisites for graduate study in their proposed program. These prerequisites are detailed on each program’s admission requirements page.

Non-Matriculated and Visitor Applications
Applicants who wish to apply as non-matriculated (non-degree seeking) or visiting students must contact the Office of Graduate Studies to request the application. Please email gradinformation@villanova.edu in order to apply.

Before you begin your application, please review these general requirements and your individual program requirements and admission deadlines in order to make the application process as seamless as possible.

Application Requirements

  • The online application for your program.

  • Nonrefundable application fee: $50 payable by credit card online.

Note: The application fee may be waived for the following individuals: 1) Those who already hold a Villanova University degree (undergraduate or graduate) 2) Those who have attended a Villanova Event (e.g. open house, online information session) 3) McNair Scholars. We ask McNair Scholars to have their program administrator send a letter or email to us confirming your participation in the program.

  • Letters of Recommendation: Check your program-specific requirements for details. We prefer that you use the online recommendation system embedded in our online application. Recommendations should be submitted by those who can speak to your capacity for graduate study. Ideally, letters should be academic in nature, but some programs may also accept professional letters.
  • Transcripts from all colleges and universities where you earned 10 or more credit hours are required (undergraduate and graduate where applicable). Unofficial copies may be uploaded in your online application for review. Official transcripts are required for all applicants who receive an offer of admission and want to enroll.

If you are unable to have an official transcript sent to us officially through your university registrar’s office, please contact us as soon as possible.

  • All application materials must be submitted electronically on the application form. There is no need to mail copies of documents. The only document that may be mailed to our office is the official transcript or a score report from a test center that does not offer electronic delivery. 


Additional Materials
Programs may also require additional materials including:

  • General GRE scores. Learn more about the GRE. Villanova's school code is 2959. Official GRE scores needs to be sent via ETS.
  • Supplemental information such as Resume, Statement of Goals or Writing Sample

International Applicants

International Applicants need to submit additional application materials:

  • Official TOEFLIELTS or Duolingo English Test scores. Villanova's school code is 2959.
  • Credentials Evaluation. Transcripts from colleges and universities outside of the U.S. and Canada must include a certified course-by-course evaluation provided by one of the organizations listed on the NACES website in addition to the original language document.
  • Financial Certification (will be required upon acceptance).

New Students
Requests for transfer of credit for graduate work completed prior to enrolling at Villanova must be made at the time of application. No requests will be reviewed after the first semester of enrollment.

Enrolled Students
Students already enrolled in a master's degree program at Villanova University who wish to take a graduate course at another institution for credit toward their Villanova graduate degree must obtain written approval from the Graduate Program Director and the Dean before the course is taken.
