General Announcements

March 25, 2021

Dear Graduates of the Villanova Class of 2021 and their Families,

Earlier this month, I announced that Villanova would hold in-person Commencement activities for our graduating students. Today, I am pleased to share that given the most recent capacity guidelines from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, we will now allow graduates to have two guests at select events during Commencement Weekend. We know that many students and families will choose to attend these events remotely, so we are also committed to providing a highly produced virtual option for anyone celebrating off campus.

To allow for guests, we have made some adjustments to the schedule that was previously shared with graduates. The new schedule for 2021 Commencement Weekend is as follows:

Wednesday, May 12
 12 p.m. – Senior Picnic*

Thursday, May 13
1 p.m. – NROTC Commissioning**
6:30 p.m. – Class of 2021 Champagne Toast*
7 p.m. – Blue & White Bash*

Friday, May 14
10:30 a.m.
 – Baccalaureate Mass**
2 p.m. – Bachelor’s Degree Commencement and Recognition Ceremony**

Saturday, May 15
11 a.m. – Charles Widger School of Law Commencement and Reception**
2 p.m. – Master’s and Doctoral Degree Commencement and Recognition Ceremony**
4 p.m. – President’s Reception for Master’s and Doctoral Degree Graduates (two guests)

*Undergraduate students only; no guests.

**Events will be livestreamed; no more than two guests permitted. No exceptions.

With this change, I feel it is important to reinforce expectations for any guests in attendance. Regardless of whether an individual has been vaccinated, all graduates and guests must follow Villanova’s CARITAS Commitment, which includes wearing a mask and physical distancing at all times throughout the weekend. Additionally, while we are committed to providing a celebratory weekend, I also anticipate we will not be able to meet our normal standards of guest hospitality, such as on-campus shuttle services and guest dining options, so I ask that you plan accordingly.

More details will be communicated in the coming weeks, and the latest information will be available on the Commencement website. I am pleased we were able to make this change with the new guidance from the Commonwealth, and I look forward to celebrating our graduates and their accomplishments this May.

Sincerely,

Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA
President

NOTE: In the event of severe weather, there will be necessary adjustments made to the current schedule. Events would take place on the same scheduled day; however, time changes and/or further guest limitations may be necessary to accommodate indoor ceremonies. Those changes would be made, and the details shared, either the evening before or the morning of the events.

March 2, 2021

Dear Graduates of the Villanova Class of 2021 and their Families,

I am pleased to announce that, with yesterday’s announcement from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania regarding outdoor events, we plan to hold in-person Commencement activities for our graduating students. However, in order to comply with current health and safety protocols and ensure that the experience for our graduates remains the priority, we have made the difficult decision not to have guests in attendance.

I understand that this is an important moment in the lives of not only our graduates, but their families and friends as well, so we are committed to finding creative and innovative ways to involve everyone in the celebration. We are still in the process of finalizing our plans, but there will be a fully virtual option for any graduate who chooses not to attend in person, as well as virtual components of the events for family and friends. In the next few weeks, we will be reaching out with more specific information and details about the weekend so you can plan accordingly.

As a reminder, the dates for Commencement Weekend are Thursday, May 13, through Saturday, May 15. For more information, please visit villanova.edu/commencement

To our graduating students, as with everything this semester, our ability to move forward with these plans rests in your hands. Please make good decisions. Please continue to embody the CARITAS Commitment.

V’s Up. Masks On. Community First.

Sincerely,

Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA
President

Thank you for wearing a mask. Thank you for keeping a safe distance apart. Congratulations to the graduates of Villanova University
