PEACE AND JUSTICE STUDIES

Peace and Justice Studies prepare students to understand the essential elements of a moral and just society, reflect on models for socially responsible resolution of injustice and conflict, and learn the necessary skills to be advocates for a just and peaceful world.

The Center for Peace and Justice Education encourages study abroad and the opportunities students have to put issues of violence and injustice into a broad historical and global context; the opportunity to engage issues of conflict and peacebuilding in the actual regions directly impacted; and gain a different national or regional perspective on approaches to social welfare and reform.

Major: Global Interdisciplinary Studies offers students the opportunity to major in Peace and Justice Studies. Though not required, students are encouraged to study abroad and engage in issues related to Peace and Justice Studies..

Majors should review the GIS MAP for additional GIS major information on "Academic Planning" and "Timing" for their study abroad experience.

Minor: Students can also pursue a PJminor. Please contact the Director of the Peace and Justice Studies program to discuss the curriculum and how to fit a PJ minor into your Villanova curriculum.

The Asian Studies Program encourages students to consider programs that provide practical experiences. Internships, field work and lab research are wonderful ways to gain hands-on, professional experience.

Study abroad opportunities are not limited to formal instruction. Consider taking advantage of the unique research, internship, and fieldwork opportunities available in different regions of the world.

Non-VU partner programs under 6 weeks long must require a petition in order to be approved. Contact your OEA advisor for petition information.

It is important to plan ahead as it is not uncommon for scholarship deadlines to occur much earlier than a Villanova or program application deadlines.

There are many study abroad scholarships available for students through Villanova University, our partner programs and other external sources, like the US Government. The OEA can help students with the scholarship search and application process. If a scholarship is found outside of the OEA scholarship page, students should have it reviewed by the OEA to determine if it is a viable option.

Browse the scholarship opportunities found on the OEA website.
