Villanova Institute for Climate, Justice, and Sustainability

The institute will be the institutional home for university-wide, cross-college academics and scholarly research at Villanova University in these critical areas, enabling a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment for faculty, post-graduate researchers, graduate students, undergraduate students, and visiting researchers and scholars. Dr. Alfonso Ortega, the James R. Birle Professor of Energy Technology in the College of Engineering, is leading these efforts.

As a body of committed faculty and students, the Institute will provide advocacy for climate and sustainability at Villanova and its impact on people; promote sustainability education for all Villanova students; and support the development of academic curricula and educational resources.

The Institute will be a hub for Villanova’s outreach to local community and global partners for education, research, advocacy and service in climate, justice and sustainability.

The VICJS will be an academic partner with other campus offices dedicated to fulfilling the President’s Climate Commitment and Villanova’s commitment to sustainability.
