Describe your interest in your academic program and what you hope to gain from it.

I chose the Communication MA program because of the broad depth of topics that are explored within the program. My courses have ranged from Qualitative Research to Digital Media Design to Space & Time in Organizations. Having access to a wide range of professors who have specialized interests across the field of communication contribute to my multiple interest.

What is your favorite course you’ve taken so far? If you are in your first year, what course are you most looking forward to in your program? Why?

Health Communication with Dr. Ally Levin! In this course, we explored the way health is communicated to audiences and how we speak about certain aspects of our health. I appreciated the importance of the topics we discussed and Dr. Levin's syllabus structure, which allowed us to learn more about health communication while participating in a group project for the Office of Health Promotion.

What are a few things you would like to share with prospective students regarding the Villanova student experience?

Villanova has great programming and resources, they are here for you to use as a student! Do not be afraid to ask for help and use the resources available to you.

How do you maintain a good school/life balance?

I frequently check in with myself to ensure I am prioritizing my personal life alongside my school life. It is okay to block off time in your calendar for self-care and to not always make yourself available even if you are. Keeping work flow checklists has been really helpful for keeping myself on task and making sure school items do not spill into my personal time.

If you’re living around Villanova, what are one to two “must do” experiences you would suggest to students new to Villanova and the surrounding area including Philadelphia?

As a life-long Philadelphia resident, my favorite cheesesteak is from Datillo's (any corner store will also have a way better cheesesteak than the touristy places) and my favorite museum is the Woodmere Art Museum - it is a more intimate art museum with amazing exhibitions!

Describe what it means to be a graduate student at Villanova. In other words, why Villanova?

I chose to attend Villanova because of the growing graduate student community. During Preview Day, there was an emphasis on growing this community and there seemed to be a true investment of care from the Grad Center team! Preview Day helped me understand that Villanova would be the right fit for what I wanted to be a part of as I completed my MA.
