SPORTS & PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING INITIATIVE
Widely renowned for excellence in both academics and athletics, Villanova University is the ideal home for research and development in Sports & Performance Engineering.
The College of Engineering established the Sports & Performance Engineering Initiative to spotlight a productive and growing cluster of researchers in this space and to seed new research projects through the provision of competitive internal funds.
Through this initiative, our faculty and students will apply engineering principles to solve problems in sports and performance, creating new opportunities for teams and individuals. Our vision is to enhance human performance—from the playing field to the classroom to the boardroom and beyond—through the creation of novel, human-centered technologies, leveraging engineering design, research and application.
ENHANCING PERFORMANCE
To be a Villanova Engineer is to pursue solutions to help others. The Sports & Performance Engineering Initiative aims to leverage technology to enable all people—not just athletes—to live their best lives.
Projects by our faculty and students have addressed challenges faced by individuals with autism, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neurological or muscular conditions. In one senior capstone project, Communicating with Frankie (right), students developed a language board to help people with cerebral palsy communicate more efficiently.
