Nurse Practitioner, COVID-19 Response/ Racial Equity Rapid Response Team

Chicago Department of Public Health

May 5, 2020

In addition to working in critical care, I am working for Chicago Department of Public Health as part of the COVID-19 Response/ Racial Equity Rapid Response Team.  My role is to assess COVID positive patients in Chicago hospitals and the community to evaluate for eligibility for quarantine/isolation housing.  This involves working on a multidisciplinary team that consists of public health officials for the city of Chicago, social workers, and the mayor.

I first discovered my passion for public health while at Villanova.  During my two Villanova trips to Waslala, Nicaragua gave me the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary tele-health related projects with Villanova engineers and local healthcare workers.  These experiences helped me to understand how truly multidisciplinary health and healthcare are.  I am using this thinking when I assess my patients and help the processes we currently have in place to evolve with the needs of our patients.  I love being able to contribute to COVID efforts through Chicago and I feel very inspired by the work we are doing at the Chicago Department of Public Health.
