Graduate Studies in Biomedical Engineering

Dr. Meltem Izzetoglu, Biomedical Engineering

Villanova’s Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (MSBME) aims to prepare the next generation of innovators who will contribute to advancements in health care, medical devices and biotechnology.

The program integrates courses from Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. Our interdisciplinary method will not only expand your knowledge but also provide you with the abilities needed to address intricate engineering problems in the real world.

Topics and courses in Villanova’s Biomedical Engineering program include:

  • Brain injury detection and monitoring
  • Human performance assessment using brain and body sensing
  • Micro-structured fiberoptics and photonics for chemical sensing
  • Robust/dependable AI with applications to human motion classification and drug discovery
  • Nanomaterials and polymer structures for biomimicry applications
  • Drug discovery and development, gene therapy, cancer treatment and blood substitutes

The MSBME program offers three concentration areas — in Biomechanics and Biomaterials; Cell and Tissue Engineering; and Biomedical Signals, Sensors and Imaging — as well as an option for a custom degree plan.

Biomedical Engineering can be pursued part time or full time through the traditional master’s degree program as well as a graduate certificate. A PhD program with a concentration in Biomedical Engineering is also available.

Be among the first to share your success story as a graduate of Villanova’s Master’s in Biomedical Engineering program.

Flexible Options

Classes are conveniently held in the evenings to allow you to successfully balance work and family while earning your degree. You can participate in class on campus, in real-time (synchronously) via our E-Learning program, or on your own schedule through recorded materials and lectures. Our graduate programs are unique in that you can combine online and on campus options, attending class or participating remotely depending upon your availability and preference. You can also complete your biochemical engineering graduate degree entirely online.
