Family-based treatment (FBT) is an empirically-supported treatment model that can deliver significant improvements for children who are overweight. Yet what exactly is FBT and what are the skills parents need to learn and health professionals need to teach to make it a successful weight management treatment?  What are some common misconceptions that parents and professionals have about family-based obesity care?  Although this intervention technique is empirically-supported, dissemination of practical ‘nuts and bolts’ strategies using FBT for health care professionals has been limited. This webinar “lifts the hood” on the FBT model in a solution-focused manner, recognizing the challenges and opportunities for health professionals and primary care. Participants will leave the webinar better informed on how FBT may be used as a tool for promoting lifestyle change in children struggling with overweight and for parents at a loss for ways to help.
