The Role of Diet in Chemotherapy Efficacy

Slides for Webinar Presentation

3 slides per page; 6 slides per page

While landmark advances in cancer treatment have led to improved outcomes, cancer remains the second leading cause of death in the United States. Strong associations exist between obesity and cancer, but there is still much to be learned about how diet influences the disease process after diagnosis. During this webinar, Dr. Mittelman will present current evidence on how body weight and diet can impact cancer incidence and treatment outcome. He will cover epidemiologic data, animal studies, and mechanistic and translational studies from his own laboratory showing how dietary intervention may improve chemotherapy efficacy. Following the presentation, a question-and-answer session will be provided.

While pursuing research in the physiology of obesity, he became interested in the association between obesity and cancer, especially the link between obesity and leukemia outcome. Dr. Mittelman is involved in several NIH/NCI and private foundation-sponsored obesity related research projects, primarily focusing on understanding how childhood obesity alters physiology and leads to long term consequences and these investigations have led to over 50 publications.
