If you are interested in a weekly service commitment connected to your Augustine and Culture Seminar (required course for first year students) this living-learning community may be for you. Caritas is comprised of up to 32 students from the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business who are interested in living Villanova values by seeking truth (Veritas), and expressing love through service (Caritas) as a Community (Unitas).
Students in this CARITAS will tutor in an afterschool program for K-6th graders at ACLAMO from 3pm to 6pm one day a week. Students will learn with hall mates and classmates in their ACS course and in a weekly discussion group that meets in the residence hall. The integration of knowledge and experience will allow students to reflect on their role as citizens and neighbors of those who live with the consequences of poverty in our society.
The Mission of ACLAMO’s after school program is to support school readiness and school achievement among at-risk children in Norristown Area School District's Spanish-speaking community, and to foster commitment to education through family involvement. ACLAMO’s main objectives are to help students strengthen basic skills and school achievement, overcome language barriers, and motivate them to reach their full potential. The program helps ELL students realize they can set and achieve their own educational and personal goals.
