In 1991 a body was discovered in the Alps by hikers.  Initially thought to be an unfortunate skier, finding his copper ax led to a radiocarbon dating of 5,300 years before present.  Dr. Michael  Zimmerman, who is our presnter, was invited to an international conference in 1992 in Innsbruck University, where a decision was made to defer examination pending the availability of better technology.  A new survey of the Austria/Italy border determined that the death had occurred 92.56 meters inside what is the present Italian border.  The body can now be viewed in the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology in Bolzano, where studies have determined his cause of death and given us a unique window into the past.
