Villanova Community Engagement Data Collection

Dear Members of the Villanova Community,

Community service and service learning are integral to Villanova’s identity. Service-related initiatives are woven inextricably into the Villanova experience and have become an important part our personal, spiritual and communal investment in the University and society. Service allows Villanovans to breathe new life into our Augustinian, Catholic mission, to improve the human condition and to learn from those in communities both near campus and around the world. Unique service and service-learning activities help us extend the classroom, address critical needs and forge meaningful relationships.

In the past, we have collected data on Villanova’s service activities. Over the years, this information has helped us measure our work and its impact. As we prepare to launch a new strategic plan – with a goal to provide increased coordination and support for service and service-learning efforts – we need your help. We are requesting as much detail as possible on what we are doing in terms of service as we strive to animate our mission and put it into action.

Under the direction of Steve Sheridan, the Office of Planning and Institutional Research (OPIR) has prepared a survey of Community Engagement – defined as service and service learning activities. We need your assistance to ensure that this survey is successful in accurately capturing and reflecting the full scope of the incredible work we accomplish as a Villanova community.

Next week, you will receive the survey from OPIR. I ask that you complete the survey thoughtfully, with as much detail as you can provide. NoteYou will receive an email for each project in your purview—please do not mistake these as duplicates. If you have any questions, please reach out to Steve. He can answer any questions you may have about this effort.

This is not the time to be shy or humble. We are looking for as much information as possible about projects and initiatives—both large and small. The data we collect will help us understand the amount of time and energy Villanovans spend in service to others, while also helping to provide a framework for how we can be more efficient and impactful in our efforts.

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I look forward to sharing the results of this important survey with our community.

Sincerely,
