Dear Members of the Villanova Community,
One of the foremost initiatives of Rooted. Restless.—The Villanova Strategic Plan 2020-2030, is the transformation of our academic facilities to advance the University's research and scholarly goals, and to support the evolving needs of our students and faculty. With this strategic priority in mind, I am very pleased to announce that Villanova University has received a $20 million gift from Victor J. Maggitti, Jr. ‘56. Vic’s remarkable gift will play an instrumental role in realizing our vision for the transformation of Falvey Library as part of our Strategic Plan.
A library is the academic heart of the campus. It is a repository of scholarship that encompasses the preservation of knowledge and is at the core of the educational experience: learning, studying, discovery and exploration. We are currently assessing the various possibilities and needs for Falvey Library to best serve our University community moving forward. Our vision is to transform the existing building into a dynamic hub that enriches the academic life of the entire Villanova community. The aim is to create an integrated space that fosters collaboration and enhances intellectual inquiry in the broadest sense. The library should empower student and faculty research and scholarship at the highest levels, and provide a beautiful, accessible and engaging space for conferences, panels and other events that bring the entire Villanova community together.
Vic is a longstanding and dedicated supporter of his alma mater. Through his generosity over the past several decades, he has demonstrated his enduring commitment to furthering Villanova’s academic mission and securing its future. Vic has been a loyal donor to the Villanova Annual Fund, enabling the University to address its most pressing priorities. He has also demonstrated passion for ensuring that the University’s facilities are of the highest caliber, providing leadership-level support to Villanova Athletics facilities and the John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts. In recognition of Vic’s passion for—and commitment to—Villanova, he was awarded the St. Thomas of Villanova Alumni Medallion in 2006.
Please join me in thanking Vic for his remarkable generosity. His gift will allow the University to advance learning and discovery at Falvey Library, where students, faculty, staff and the global community of scholars can access, create and share knowledge. There are few campus spaces that touch as many Villanova lives, or so powerfully set the tone for the University now, and in the future.
On behalf of the entire Villanova community, I extend my deepest gratitude to Vic for this incredible gift.
Sincerely,
Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA
