Prayers for Peace in Ukraine
February 28, 2022 |
Dear Members of the Villanova Community,
Over the past several days, we have all seen and heard the reports regarding the worsening situation in Ukraine. Guided by our Augustinian values of Unitas, Veritas and Caritas, let us stand with our impacted brothers and sisters in both Ukraine and Russia. Together, let us pray for peace and protection for all people and a swift end to this conflict.
In solidarity with everyone impacted by the invasion of Ukraine, Pope Francis has called for this Ash Wednesday, March 2, to be a day of fasting and prayer for peace. Our 12:05 p.m. Mass and 3 p.m. Ecumenical Service that day will have this specific intention. While most of our community is not on campus this week because of spring break, we can remain united together in our prayer.
Throughout the season of Lent, all collections at our Sunday evening liturgies will go toward the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, which has established a fund for this humanitarian crisis. Consider making a donation.
Our thoughts and prayers are also with the members of our University community who are personally impacted by these events, and we pray for the repose of the souls whose lives have been tragically lost in this conflict. In God’s name, we pray that humanity prevails, and peace returns to Ukraine.
Sincerely,
Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA
President
