NEWS & EVENTS
A Villanova tradition for 65 years, Red Mass provides an opportunity for faculty, alumni, students, families and guests to celebrate the beginning of the Law School’s academic year. This year’s celebration will be held on Friday, September 29 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church. A complimentary reception will be held following the mass at Scarpa Hall.
Every summer, Villanova Law students participate in law-based externship positions. Externships offer law students the crucial opportunity to further their legal education with hands-on experiences in professional settings throughout the United States and even abroad. Four Villanova Law students discussed their summer externship experiences.
This past summer, students Andrea Solis Canto ’25, Carlos Juarez ’25 and Jorge Navarro ’25 traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico for a week-long legal aid trip. Once there, the students attended comparative law classes at the Jesuit University of Guadalajara and dedicated a week to providing Central American migrants with pro bono legal aid through the FM4 Paso Libre shelter. Their time abroad concluded with the students presenting on workers’ rights in the US to the State Commission on Human Rights of Jalisco, Mexico.
This fall, Villanova Law established a new clinic specializing in intellectual property (IP) law, led by Clinic Director and Assistant Professor of Law Waseem Moorad. Now the eighth in-house clinic at the school, the Intellectual Property Law Clinic will allow students to gain critical hands-on experience helping clients through the patent and trademark prosecution process.
