A Photographic Exhibition by Steve McCurry Upcoming at Villanova Gallery

Villanova, PA – Images of world-renowned photographer Steve McCurry, best known for his lush color and iconic photographs exploring the human condition, were exhibited at the Villanova University Art Gallery in late October, 2009.

Titled "Looking East", the show featured images from Yemen, Tibet, Kashmir, Afghanistan, Burma, Cambodia, and India. Many of these images are included in McCurry's recent book, The Unguarded Moment, published by Phaidon Press, Ltd.

Recognized universally as one of today's finest image-makers, Steve McCurry has won many of photography's top awards, including Magazine Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers' Association, and the Robert Capa Gold Medal for Best Photographic Reporting from Abroad.

He has had many exhibitions around the world including museums in the Netherlands, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Cambodia, France, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Argentina, and Afghanistan.

Best known for his evocative color photography in the finest documentary tradition, McCurry captures the essence of human struggle and joy.  A member of Magnum Photos since 1986, McCurry has searched and found the unforgettable; many of his images have become modern icons.  McCurry graduated with honors from the Pennsylvania State University.  After university, he left for India to freelance.

It was in India that McCurry learned to watch and wait on life.  "If you wait," he realized, "people will forget your camera and the soul will drift up into view."  When he is not traveling on assignment, McCurry makes his home in New York City.

Selected works for Steve McCurry's exhibit may be previewed on the gallery's website at www.artgallery.villanova.edu.
