The Center for Global and Public Health has launched "Let's Talk COVID-19" - a program developed by nurses that relies on an interdisciplinary approach to assure that the audience has the most current information of this unfolding illness and its impact on patient and public health.

  • Episode Six: Let's Talk COVID-19: Views from the bedside: Frontline nurses caring for COVID-19 patients

    • Clint Owens, MSN, RN - ICU, Emery University Hospital, Atlanta, PhD program.   Clint is the Unit Director of the 42 bed Neuroscience ICU at Emory University Hospital. In the setting of COVID-19, the critical care division  at Emory University Hospital has been tasked with expanding our capacity by 75 ICU beds. Clint is a PhD student working with Dr. Ruth McDermott-Levy on impacting green practices in the acute care setting.
    • Patrick Smith, BSN, RN, - Complex Case Manger at Fenway Health. Patrick Smith, FCN '16, has focused his work on the intersections between primary care and public health. Following his graduation in 2016, Patrick accepted a Fulbright grant in Lesotho, where he researched the effects of a national community health worker program on access to and quality of HIV, tuberculosis, and maternal-child health care services. In the year following, he worked with Partners In Health-Lesotho to support a mixed-methods evaluation of a multi-dimensional national primary healthcare reform. Since returning to the U.S. in 2018, Patrick has worked at Fenway Health, a federally qualified health center in Boston, where he currently serves as a Complex Care Manager, supporting health promotion and quality improvement initiatives to advance the quality and accessibility of care for high-risk patients. n “architect of community partnerships.”
    • Michael Badalement, BS, BSN, RN, a 2018 graduate from Villanova’s BSNExpress program.  He also has a bachelors of science degree in Biology from St. Joseph’s University. Michael is currently working at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania and on the cardiac intermediate care unit while also working on HUP's dedicated COVID unit. He plans to apply to a MSN/MPH program in a few years to serve as a Nurse Practitioner as well as help make informed healthcare policies for our communities around the globe.

    • Jay Wright - In 19 seasons as Villanova’s William B. Finneran Endowed Head Coach, Jay Wright has guided the Wildcats to new heights, including a pair of NCAA national championships. The Bucknell University graduate (1983) is one of only three active Division I head coaches with multiple national championships to his credit.  Wright’s first book “Attitude: How to Develop a Winning Mindset On and Off the Court” was released in 2017 and became a New York Times’ bestseller.
    • Dr. Linda Copel is a Professor at Villanova University’s M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing.  Dr. Copel is an exemplar for both undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Copel is well known for her research in domestic violence and more recently with issues affecting veterans and their families. She is successful in interdisciplinary efforts as well, a proponent of Interprofessional education and described by colleagues as an “architect of community partnerships.”

    • Dr Michelle Kelly is an Assistant Professor at Villanova University’s M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, coordinating the pediatric primary care nurse practitioner program.  Dr Kelly is a passionate advocate for promoting the health and educational success of children born preterm.  She has published numerous manuscripts aimed at understanding the impact of preterm birth on a child’s neurodevelopmental and educational outcomes.  She speaks nationally and strives to increase health care provider understanding of these issues.  Dr Kelly is a nationally certified pediatric and neonatal nurse practitioner.  She currently provides pediatric primary care to uninsured children as a volunteer at The Clinic in Phoenixville, PA.
    • Dr. Melissa O’Connor is an Associate Professor and Director of the Gerontology Interest Group at Villanova University’s M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing.  Dr. O’Connor is a Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing specializing in skilled home health operations, decision support and transitional care.  She is also skilled in leading and publishing clinical research teams and in healthcare management.  Dr. O’Connor received her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and has a Master's in Business Administration and Certificate in Applied Health Informatics.
    • Thaddeus Kavanagh is currently serving as the Emergency Management Coordinator for Main Line Health System. Prior to joining Main Line Health, he was the Training & Exercise Coordinator for the Chester County Department of Emergency Services. In addition to his regular duties, he was an EMAP Accessor and served as the EMAP Project Manager for CCDES. Additionally, he was a Technician with Chester County’s Hazardous Materials Response Team and served as a member of the Apparatus Committee, and Chair of the Training Committee for the team.

    • Amneris Di Cesare,  a resident of Bologna, Italy.  She works as a free-lance journalist for women's magazines, manages the F.I.A.E. an Independent Forum for Emerging Authors, and conducts self-editing workshop for emerging writers. She is the winner of the Mondoscrittura Literary Award and she has published several essays and three roman novels.  She lives with her husband who is a plastic surgeon and adult son who is a law student.
    • Dr. Grazia Maria Francese, a 1980 graduate in Medicine from Turin University. Since 1983 she has worked as a General Practitioner for the Italian Public Health System. She also practices traditional Japanese disciplines for Kendo and Zen. At her country home she built a Dojo where, with a small group of friends, to we practice Kendo and Zen. In the free time I write historical romances, already published three and soon coming a fourth.
