Overview of the Agreement

This agreement, together with the recent acquisition of Cabrini University, represents a long-term, strategic opportunity for Villanova to foster and preserve the legacy of two outstanding Catholic institutions of higher education and enables Villanova to build upon its strengths, invest in critical areas of opportunity and enhance the Villanova experience for our entire community—now and well into the future.

Rosemont and Villanova have reached an agreement that will merge the neighboring institutions with a phased, multi-year transition beginning in 2027.

  • This is intended to enable Rosemont College to continue operating as a separate entity, providing current students the opportunity to complete their studies and graduate with Rosemont College degrees.
  • During the transition, it is envisioned that Rosemont College's educational and many extracurricular activities will continue as planned—supported by Rosemont faculty and staff.
  • Once all aspects of the transition are complete, the campus will be known as “Villanova University, Rosemont Campus.”
  • Additional information about the transition will be shared when appropriate.

Our current focus is to support Rosemont’s intention to provide current students the opportunity to complete their studies and graduate with Rosemont College degrees. The agreement entails a phased, multi-year transition that will begin in 2027. There is still much work needed to finalize the merger, including the appropriate regulatory approvals.

After the transition is completed, Rosemont College’s history and mission will live on in a number of ways, including that the campus will honor the legacy of its founders, the Society of The Holy Child Jesus, and the institution’s history and mission by retaining the Rosemont name as it continues to support Catholic higher education.

Villanova's Strategic Plan/Vision for the Future

Villanova has a strong financial standing and is well positioned to undertake this commitment. The Villanova University Board of Trustees is confident this is a sound financial investment at a time when there is great demand for a Villanova education.

With this agreement, we seek to enhance our University programs and complement the goals we developed together in our Strategic Plan, Rooted. Restless., while honoring and preserving the legacy of Rosemont College. We remain committed to the tenets of the Strategic Plan, although the exact timing of some initiatives may need to be assessed. The timeline and existing plans for the Cabrini campus remain unchanged.

Once all aspects of the transition are complete, the campus will retain the Rosemont name and continue as an academic and residential campus known as Villanova University, Rosemont Campus. Additional information about how Villanova will use the campus will be shared as we get closer to the final phase of the transition.
