Account Information

It is the policy of Villanova University that all faculty, staff and students will be issued a User ID that is to be protected by a password which enables them to complete the academic and business needs of the University. (There are occasions when an employee may need additional User IDs.) Where appropriate and upon need there may be User ID’s created for non-university employees. It is the responsibility of the user to create a strong password and to safeguard its confidentiality. At no time should the user grant access to his/her account by providing someone else the password. Passwords for new employee and student User IDs are randomly generated. Creation of new accounts is run daily and is communicated to the individual user via postal mail explaining the use of the User ID, password, and homepage URL.

**Annual Password Expiration**

Beginning in January 2016, the University will be implementing annual password expiration for all Faculty and Staff Villanova accounts. 

This University approved policy and process change is part of the ongoing IT Security and Information Protection initiative that follows acknowledged IT security best practices, which protect Villanova University systems, data, network and individual identity information. 

All Faculty and Staff will be prompted on an annual basis to change their Villanova password.  The process will happen in a phased approach based on the month you last changed your password.  Example, if you last changed your password on July 8, 2011, you will now be prompted to change your password on July 8, 2016.

Please remember that because this password applies to multiple systems, you should not give your VU userID or password to anyone.

What are the VU password requirements?

All new passwords issued by Villanova will have the following guidelines:

  • At least 1 upper or lower case letter
  • At least 1 number
  • At least 1 special character e.g.    %, $, (,*
  • Must have at least 5 unique characters
  • At least 8 characters in length

Passwords will be lower case when generated; users can add uppercase letters when they change their password.

The symbol for exclamation has been excluded.

How do I change my BANNER password?

If your job requires you to access our Banner student/financial records system, you will need a userid and password. If you can't remember your Banner username/password, you may contact us online at: http://sdess.villanova.edu. Please specifically state that you'd like to have your Banner password reset.
