VSB Creates New Minor in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

Villanova, Pa., September 24, 2020The Villanova School of Business (VSB) has introduced the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) minor in Fall 2020. The three-course minor degree is open to all VSB students, with coursework that includes building prototype intelligent systems, natural language processing, expert systems, supervised and unsupervised learning, and robotics, among other areas that comprise the broad field of AI.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning have become increasingly important technologies across all business disciplines such as finance, banking, marketing, healthcare, accounting, real estate, and more.

“A minor in artificial intelligence and machine learning will ensure that VSB students remain competitive in today’s job market,” says Mike Peters, PhD, chair and professor, Accounting & Information Systems. “Our new AI and ML minor will allow students to leverage the skills that are crucial to businesses now, as well as prepare them for the future.”

Students will be exposed to how AI and ML will continue to impact the future of business, including the automation of business processes and tasks, decision-making, conversational interfaces and personalization. They will also examine the ethical concerns of AI to understand the issues surrounding giving decision-making power to intelligent systems.

The program is expected to serve as a minor program to students majoring in Finance, Marketing, Management, Accounting, MIS, Economics and Real Estate.
