Villanova Scientist Part of Team Producing First Image of Black Hole in Our Galaxy

Joey Neilsen, PhD, assistant professor of Physics, is a part of a team of astronomers that unveiled the first image of the supermassive black hole at the center of our own Milky Way galaxy. The findings yield valuable clues about the workings of these massive objects believed to live at the center of most galaxies. The image was produced after years of work by a global research team called the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration using observations from a worldwide network of radio telescopes.

Villanova Engineering Professor receives CAREER Grant from the National Science Foundation

Kristin Sample-Lord, PhD, an assistant professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the University's College of Engineering, is the ninth Villanova faculty member to receive an National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award since 2017. The award will allow her to advance research in water security and environmental protection, while preparing future science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) professionals.

Villanova University student Zachary Boyer has been named as a 2022 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.
