This year the One Book Committee has selected Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Just Mercy is Bryan Stevenson’s account of his decades-long career as a legal advocate for marginalized people who have been either falsely convicted or harshly sentenced. Though the book contains profiles of many different people, the central storyline is that of the relationship between Stevenson, the organization he founded (the Equal Justice Initiative, or EJI), and Walter McMillian, an African American man wrongfully accused of murder and sentenced to death in Alabama in the late 1980’s.
Bryan Stevenson is coming to campus Friday, September 14th. The lecture will start at 4:00 pm as part of the annual St. Thomas of Villanova celebration in the Villanova Room, Connelly Center followed by a book signing.
Following the festivities on September 14th, we look forward to seeing you at programs that will continue our conversation around themes raised in our One Book. Please click here for a list of programs.
