Villanova Men's Basketball Earns Third Final Four Berth in Last Six Tournaments

Villanova Men's Basketball Advances to Final Four

The Villanova University Men’s Basketball team advanced to the NCAA Final Four for the third time since 2016, before falling to Kansas in a national semifinal game played at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Saturday, April 2. This year marked the Wildcats’ seventh Final Four appearance and third in the last six NCAA Tournaments.

Villanova finished a thrilling 2021-22 campaign with a 30-8 record. It is the sixth 30-win season in program history, with all six coming since 2009. Along the way, the Wildcats peaked at the right time to reach the Final Four on the strength of a 9-0 record during the month of March.

Guard Collin Gillespie was named the 2022 recipient of the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation’s top point guard. Gillespie was the second Wildcat to earn the honor since the award's formation in 2003-04, joining former teammate Jalen Brunson (2018) as a winner.

Gillespie was also named the 2021-22 BIG EAST Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, marking only the third time in conference history that a player received both honors in the same season (Brunson in 2018 and UConn's Emeka Okafor in 2004). Gillespie was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second consecutive season, while guard Justin Moore received All-BIG EAST Second Team honors.
