PhD Student Selected as Fellow for 2020 Design Automation Conference
Dongning Ma
Dongning Ma, a 2nd-year PhD student advised by Dr. Xun Jiao in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was recently selected as a Richard Newton Student Fellow, which will support his participation in the 2020 Design Automation Conference (DAC) to be held virtually in late July. The DAC is the largest and most important conference in the field of electronic design automation (EDA) and embedded systems.
The fellows program provides students with opportunities to network and divides them into teams that will work together in advance of the conference to design an actual deep learning system and run state-of-the-art EDA tools. The program will include a professional development component where students will learn how to write and present their research.
Already an accomplished author and presenter, Dongning, along with Dr. Jiao, will have a paper published and presented at the DAC on the use of machine learning to design better embedded computer systems. This is Dongning’s 8th publication (two journals and six conference proceedings) since beginning in Villanova’s doctoral program last year. He is first author for six of them, including one which received a best paper award.
Active in Dr. Jiao’s Dependable, Efficient and Intelligent Computing Lab, Dongning’s research interests include embedded systems, machine learning and software/hardware codesign. Learn more about his work on his webpage.
