Civil Engineering Seniors Earn Moles Scholarships
Earlier this year, Villanova University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department entered into a new relationship with The Moles, a national fraternal organization dedicated to the heavy construction industry in the greater New York City area. Through a variety of programs, the students at 20 participating colleges and universities enjoy tremendous networking and learning opportunities related to tunnel, subway, sewer, foundation, marine and sub-aqueous projects. The Moles also support students through a Scholarships Fund, and less than a year into the relationship, Villanova Engineering students have reaped the benefits.
In November 2019, Civil Engineering seniors Gerard A. Catalfamo and Madeline McQuillan were awarded Moles Scholarships in recognition of their academic achievements. Nominated by Department Chair Dr. Shawn Gross, Gerard and Maddie each received $6,250.
Coincidentally, both students interned this past summer with the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, and both received full-time offers as project engineers after graduation. Gerard will be working in the company’s Bridgewater, NJ, office and says, “I also want to earn my MBA and study for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to acquire my Engineering in Training certification.”
Maddie, whose summer experience included a three-story vertical expansion of a children's hospital, will work for Whiting-Turner in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area.
