Engineering Professors are Semi-Finalists for Prestigious Teaching Award

Dr. David Dinehart, Assistant Chair and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Edward Char, Instructor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, are both semi-finalists for the University’s prestigious Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Each year, the University President solicits nominations for this award which recognizes a faculty member who excels in undergraduate teaching.  A subcommittee of the Committee on Faculty, consisting of previous recipients of this award, evaluates these nominations and presents the Lindback Award to the selected faculty member during commencement exercises in May.  

Professor Dinehart has been with the College of Engineering for 15 years. He has twice won the Farrell Award for Teaching Excellence, in 2005 and 2008. Presented by the College of Engineering, the Farrell Award recognizes an engineering faculty member who has demonstrated personal concern for students and exceptional dedication to the College.

Also with the College for 15 years, Ed Char received the Farrell Award in 2000 and 2012, and has been a semi-finalist for the Lindback Award for Outstanding Teaching eight times, including in 2012.

The most recent Lindback Award recipient from the College of Engineering was Dr. Randy D. Weinstein, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Professor Weinstein received the award in 2010. A list of Lindback Award winners since 1963 can be found on the Provost's website.
