Engineers Week 2020

Engineers Week is celebrated throughout the country during the third week in February. At the College, in addition to the annual Patrick J. Cunningham, Jr. and Susan Ward '80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering, the week includes a variety of activities and events designed to bring attention to the College and the work of our students and faculty.

Engineers are celebrated during 7 p.m. mass on this Sunday.

Monday, 2/17

6:00–8:00 pm, Villanova Room, Connelly Center

Order of the Engineer Induction Ceremony and Career Compass Networking Session

Co-sponsored by The Engineers' Club of Philadelphia, this networking session provides sophomores–seniors with an opportunity to engage professionally with alumni.

Seniors, graduate students, faculty and working professionals are invited to purchase a ring ($15) and participate in the Order of the Engineer Ring Ceremony, which begins at 6:00 pm. The Engineer’s Ring in the United States is a stainless steel ring, worn on the fifth finger of the working hand by engineers who have accepted the Obligation of an Engineer in a ring ceremony. There are no annual dues or meetings to attend.

To participate in the networking session and induction ceremony, please register. Event registration is free. There is a $15 fee to participate in the Order of the Engineer Induction Ceremony. Ring orders must be placed by February 7.

Graduate Student Poster Competition
Support our graduate students as they showcase their research from all departments within the College of Engineering. Faculty will serve as judges, prizes will be awarded, and light refreshments will be served. Graduate students must register to present their posters.

Trivia Competition presented by the Engineering Student Council

How well do you know the engineering faculty?

Join us for a scavenger style trivia contest with clues! Prizes include Campco gift cards. First come, first served.

Art of Engineering Reception
Winning entries from the Art of Engineering contest will be recognized at this reception.

Friday, 2/21

Patrick J. Cunningham, Jr. and Susan Ward '80 Endowed Lecture Series in Engineering
Alumnus Douglas Munch, PhD, ’69 ChE is this year’s Ward Lecturer. He will present “When I Grow Up: A Life’s Narrative,” in which he will reflect on the nature of decision-making and lessons learned in his life journey. Dr. Munch’s incredible journey has included working on the Apollo 11 mission, developing the Navy’s F-14 fighter plane, earning a PhD in Medicine and Biomedical Engineering, professional achievements in medical devices and life science research, photography, a children’s book and more.

Engineering Alumni Society Awards Reception
Join us for the 42nd Engineering Alumni Awards Dinner. This special evening brings together alumni, faculty, staff and dedicated supporters of Villanova Engineering to celebrate our accomplished recipients with the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, University President. Register to attend.
