A major in Leadership will help you develop and cultivate a comprehensive set of practical skills to apply to your professional endeavors. You will learn about theories of leadership, and identify the factors that contribute to one's ability to develop, articulate, and sustain a vision as a leader.
The Leadership major is available for students pursuing a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) or a Bachelor of Arts (BA).
Curriculum and Coursework
The curriculum is designed to investigate and analyze moral and ethical challenges to leadership. You will develop personal, professional, and intellectual skills to act with integrity when faced with ethical dilemmas. You will learn about the issues most relevant to today's corporate leaders such as globalization, technological and social change, and workforce diversity, inclusion, and equity.
You will learn to:
- Understand and influence diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders
- Lead and manage ethically
- Lead in a global environment
- Recognize how political and social issues interact with one's organization
- Operate in evolving environments
- Develop a high level of personal adaptability, learn from experience and modify plans as needed
- Quickly resolve complex problems by perceiving relationships among multiple, disparate issues

Students pursuing a major in Leadership can also apply to the combined BIS/MS Human Resource Development program.
CPS also offers a Certificate in Leadership that only requires 6 courses to complete. Students may enroll in this certificate program with or without completion of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree. All courses can be counted towards completion of a degree in CPS.

Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) Core = 45 Credits, 15 Courses
Students must complete 15 courses (for a total of 45 credits) in the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) Core Curriculum.

Bachelor of Arts Core = 50 Credits, 18 Courses
Complete 18 courses (for a total of 50 credits) in the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Core Curriculum.
Leadership Major = 10 Courses, 30 Credits
LDR 2000 Foundations of Leadership: Introduction to the concepts of and approaches to leadership. Historical and contemporary leadership theories. *Required as a pre-requisite for all other leadership courses.
LRD 2010 Strategic Planning for Leaders: The strategic planning process in organizations. Mission, values, goals, alignment and accountability in the development and execution of a strategic plan.
LRD 2020 Leadership & Community: Leadership in the public sector. A study of leaders in politics, civil rights, academics/research and corporations. Evaluation of effective/ineffective leadership styles.
LDR 2030 Leading with a Digital Mindset: Analysis of the implications of technology on leadership. The strategic role of technology in organizations. Define and analyze attitudes and behaviors of a “digital mindset.
LDR 2040 Ethics & Leadership: The nature of ethical leadership. How the leader's values and beliefs affect decision making. The concepts of organizational and social responsibility.
LDR 2050 History of Leadership: This course evaluates the history of leadership and leaders from both the theoretical and practical perspective. Historical aspects examined will include war, peace, severe economic conditions, technology advances, societal changes, and the evolution of organizations. Students will develop a leadership philosophy and approach, and examine this approach and its place in the grander context of the history of leadership.
LDR 2060 Global Strategic Leadership: This course focuses on global leadership dynamics and strategy. Cross-cultural awareness; ethicsand social responsibility in international and global contexts.
LDR 2070 Strategy Driven Talent Management: Develop a personal talent management philosophy and plan. Improve ability to reflectively lead talent management efforts. Develop the capacity to analyze and assess talent management practices. Sharpen decision making and problem solving techniques. Research, develop and present a talent management project.
LDR 2080 Leadership Communication: Explore strategies and tactics for engaging and inspiring your team, clients, and partners. Includes topics such as communicating your vision, social media strategy, storytelling, and crisis communication.
LDR 5000 Leadership Capstone Course: Utilizes integration and analysis of leadership principles. Case studies and team-based project covering major topics in the leadership curriculum.
