Mission Statement

The Villanova University Art Gallery continually strives to make the visual arts a vital aspect of the life of the university and communities it serves by:

  • Building on our tradition of exhibiting in an artist-friendly environment culturally diverse works of power and excellence by established, nontraditional, and emerging artists from around the world;
  • Enhancing our world class collection as we continue to gain the confidence of donors who have entrusted us with art of value and importance, with our primary focus on collecting works by prominent past and contemporary Philadelphia area artists;
  • Building an awareness and appreciation of the visual arts by Villanova students, staff, and faculty, by strategically placing quality works of art at prominent indoor and outdoor campus locations.

The Collection

The Gallery also manages the University's art collection. Works by 20th Century American artists are the principal focus of Gallery acquisitions, with emphasis on past and contemporary Philadelphia area artists. All media including oil paintings, African stone sculptures, ancient Asian pottery, and Oceanic wood carvings are represented in the collection.

Donating Art

The University welcomes donation of art in all mediums, throughout the ages, and from around the world that meet collection criteria. All proposed donations undergo a rigorous review process that may take up to six months or more, depending on the art object(s) under consideration. Acquisitions for the Villanova University Art Collection are made on the basis of an art object's role in supporting the mission of the Art Gallery, Art Collection and the University as a whole and are accepted at the sole discretion of the University. To ensure proper tax credit, appraised gifts must be received no later than December 1st of the calendar year in which tax deduction is sought. Please let us know you are interested in making a donation by contacting us.
