Center for Advanced Communications

Center for Advanced Communications

The National Science Foundation recently recognized the Center for Advanced Communications (CAC) as “an excellent and rare example of how to sustain and grow a research operation in a smaller university.” The NSF's national report, which featured the CAC as one of four case studies, found the Center’s research talent, lab facilities and entrepreneurial mindset to be a “great accomplishment.”

The CAC invites you to be part of its research activities by enrolling in the College of Engineering graduate program and pursuing research in one of our focus areas.

The Center’s Areas of Research & Development

The Center for Advanced Communications (CAC) pursues advanced research and development in the broad areas of communications including:

  • Wireless and Digital Communications
  • High Resolution Imaging
  • Smart Antennas and Space-Time Processing
  • Interference Mitigation in Broad-Band Communication Platforms
  • Innovative Antenna Design
  • Computational Electromagnetics
  • Microwave and RF Microelectronics
  • GPS Technology
  • Linear and Nonlinear Modeling of Devices

Since its inception in 1990, the Center has provided an integrated environment for university, industry and government to focus on computational, informational and communications issues.

The Center's Projects and Facilities

Projects undertaken by the CAC are led by professors in the College of Engineering, and involve undergraduate and graduate students, research professors, research associates, and postdoctoral fellows. CAC projects have been sponsored by Pennsylvania state agencies, federal government agencies and companies of all sizes. These industrial, federal, and state partners benefit from the regional base of technology expertise, economic growth and job creation, cost effective research and development efforts, a strategic relationship and partnership in information and communications technologies, and a pool of highly qualified students.

The CAC has five state-of-the-art research labs:

The labs were established from external funds. Each lab has its own Director and is maintained from revenues generated from research contracts and grants.
