Dr. Christina Whitehouse is Inaugural Coach Bennett Endowed Assistant Professor
Assistant Professor Christina Whitehouse, PhD, AGPCNP-BC, CDCES, FADCES was named the Coach Bennett Endowed Assistant Professor in the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing, announced Donna S. Havens, PhD, RN, FAAN, Connelly Endowed Dean and Professor on April 20. Dr. Whitehouse will assume this role immediately and will hold the role until she is promoted to Associate Professor at Villanova.
This Endowed Assistant Professorship was donated by Glenn Bennett P ’23 to honor his father, George Bennett, who coached Villanova’s baseball team from 1986-2001.
Dr. Whitehouse earned an AS from Hahnemann University in Medical Technology; a BA in Anthropology (Cum Laude) from Temple University; a BSN (Cum Laude) from Villanova University; a Master’s Degree as an Adult Health and Gerontologic NP (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, and a PhD in Nursing from the College of Nursing at Villanova where she received the Distinguished Dissertation Award. She completed a Post-doctoral Research Fellowship (funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research) at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, through the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) training program in Individualized Care for At Risk Older Adults (T32NR009356). She is the founding member of the Villanova ReachOut Program to engage older adults during COVID-19 which has now become an official Villanova student group.
Dr. Whitehouse is board certified as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and a Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. In addition to serving as an Assistant Professor in the FCN, Dr. Whitehouse practices as a nurse practitioner in the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa., and she is a research associate in a Multisite Replication of a Randomized Controlled Trial - Transitional Care Model (MIRROR-TCM), (Clinical Trial: NCT04212962), PI: Dr. Mary Naylor, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
Dr. Whitehouse is a fellow in the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (FADCES), received the Main Line Today’s 2022 Top Nurses Excellence in Nursing Award, and the Distinguished Education in Gerontological Nursing designation from the National Hartford Center for Gerontological Nursing Excellence.
An active scholar, Dr. Whitehouse has numerous peer reviewed data-based publications, and she has presented her science at national and international venues.
