DNP Alumna Dr. Meghan Coleman selected for Advanced Practice Clinical Excellence Award
Villanova Nursing alumna Meghan O'Regan Coleman ’93 BSN, ’13 DNP, RN, CRNP, AOCNP was nominated for and won the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Excellence in Clinical Practice Award for the Philadelphia region’s Jefferson Health System. The award recognizes excellence among APPs at Jefferson inpatient and outpatient areas and is presented during the annual fall networking event. Dr. Coleman is the survivorship coordinator, Department of Medical Oncology, at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Abington-Jefferson Health in Willow Grove, Pa. She earned both her BSN and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees at the Villanova University Fitzpatrick College of Nursing.
Her nomination by a colleague cited her as one of the first advanced practitioners to join the group in 2018, where she quickly “utilized her past experiences and took on responsibilities beyond direct patient care. She was an integral leader in developing hundreds of ‘Carevive’ survivorship plans, an initiative directed at improving patient outcomes after they complete cancer therapy.” Dr. Coleman was lauded for further defining the APP role across three clinical spaces: the outpatient clinic, the inpatient oncology floor and the infusion center, with a “strong sense of teamwork and impressive depth of knowledge.”
Dr. Coleman notes, that in addition to her passion and drive as a Villanova Nurse, “It is the confidence I learned through the DNP program to explore innovative ways to provide expert care. It also provided me with the skills to work collaboratively with my colleagues in all disciplines. I learned how to develop my leadership style and provide expert care through an evidence-based approach.”
