Dr. Smeltzer elected to disability in health care education board

Villanova, PA, May 24, 2010 — Suzanne C. Smeltzer, EdD, RN, FAAN was elected in May to the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Disability in Health Care Education. Dr. Smeltzer is professor and director of the Center for Nursing Research at the Villanova University College of Nursing.

The Alliance is an interdisciplinary organization with the mission to advance the availability of effective, appropriate and high quality health care for persons with disabilities by promoting the inclusion of disability-related theory, research, and clinical learning experiences in the educational programs of the health care professions.

Dr. Smeltzer is committed to making health promotion practices and services accessible and acceptable for people with disabilities. She is an internationally known scholar, researcher, educator and author, who has directed the College’s Health Promotion for Women with Disabilities Project funded by a grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. Dr. Smeltzer has served on disabilities-related committees and advisory groups and much of her research has addressed health issues of people with multiple sclerosis and other disabilities.
