Congratulations to our Villanova Navy Nurses!

Villanova, PA, May 2, 2008 — This weekend begins a special celebration for the 100th anniversary of the United States Navy Nurse Corps—a milestone in American and Navy nursing. The Nurse Corps centennial events include a gala on May 3rd.

Villanova’s association with the Navy is a long and rich one. Many of our nursing alumni have served in the Navy Nurse Corps over our 54-year history. Numerous alumni serve today around the world. We are proud that one of our alumni, Rear Admiral Christine Bruzek-Kohler, ’74 BSN, is the Director of the Navy Nurse Corps and the Chief of Staff of the Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery. She is a 2006 recipient of the College of Nursing’s Medallion as well as chair of our Board of Consultors. The College has sent official congratulations on this anniversary to Rear Admiral Bruzek-Kohler.

We applaud our Navy nurses for their service and congratulate them on the occasion of this historic event! Happy 100th birthday to the Navy Nurse Corps!
