Research

Research Project: Soft porous lubrication

Description: This project is inspired by the frictionless motion of red blood cells over the endothelial glycocalyx layer (EGL) that covers the inner surface of our blood vessels and human snowboarding on powder snow. A systematic study is performed to examine the lift generation inside a highly compressible porous media and its applications to soft porous lubrication. The study examines the soft porous lubrication from 1-D to 2-D, from large scale to small scale, and from forced gliding to freely sliding.
