Itay Ravid

Associate Professor of Law



Itay Ravid, associate professor of law, joined Villanova Law from Stanford Law School, where he was a lecturer in law and teaching fellow for the Stanford Program in International Legal Studies (SPILS). Ravid’s main research interests are criminal law and procedure. His empirically based scholarship focuses on the connections between criminal law, technology, race and society, with particular attention to the accountability of the criminal justice system in an era of digital democracy. His work has been awarded several prizes and was published or is forthcoming in journals such as Southern California Law Review, UC Irvine Law Review, Indiana Law Journal, and University of Illinois Law Review, among others.

Prior to Stanford, Ravid worked as an attorney at the Israeli Attorney General’s Office, litigating cases on behalf of all Israeli government ministries before the Supreme Court. He also served as a senior law clerk to the chief justice of the Israeli Supreme Court, Hon. Dorit Beinisch. He holds a JSD (doctorate) and a JSM in law from Stanford Law School, an LLM in public and international law from Northwestern University and Tel-Aviv University and an LLB in law and mass communication and journalism from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. 


Practice Experience

  • Attorney, The Israeli Attorney General’s office, Ministry of Justice (2004-09). Litigated cases on behalf of all Israeli government ministries before the Supreme Court. Handled petitions raising novel questions of law, governance, and civil rights.
  • Senior Law Clerk, Supreme Court of Israel (Jerusalem) (2009-12). Clerked for Chief Justice Dorit Beinisch, President of the Supreme Court.
