OUTSIDE SCHOLARSHIPS

 

This list of outside scholarships is not under the auspices of Villanova Law School, but it is provided to you as a guide in your research for obtaining other sources of aid.  Please be advised that there are probably additional requirements for each scholarship and the award amounts, deadlines, etc. may change from what is posted below.  If you have questions about these scholarships or if you need more information including how to apply, please contact each sponsor listed below directly.  Remember that if you are awarded an outside scholarship, you are required to report it to the Office of Financial Aid.

 

Avoiding Financial Aid Scams

For additional information on outside scholarships, please visit the Department of Education’s Scholarship section of their website to help you in your search and to educate yourself on avoiding scams.  To file a scam complaint or to receive free information on consumer issues, you can contact the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) or online.

According to the FTC, these are tell-tale signs of financial aid fraud:

  • The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back
  • You can’t get this information anywhere else
  • I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship
  • We’ll do all the work
  • The scholarship will cost some money
  • You’ve been selected by a “national foundation” to receive a scholarship or “You’re a finalist” in a contest you never entered

 

Law Preview Scholarships Sponsored By Lexis-Nexis

Law Preview, together with leading law schools, law firms, Fortune 500 companies and bar associations, has created an innovative partnership to improve the academic performance of first-year law students.  These sponsoring organizations generously fund full scholarships for incoming law students to attend a Law Preview summer session so that they can learn from the nation's leading law school professors and attorney lecturers what to expect and how to succeed in law school.  Some sponsors also make further investments by mentoring scholarship recipients throughout their 1L year.

Law Preview (the nation's largest law school prep course) has teamed up with Lexis-Nexis, one of the world's leading providers of online legal research, to provide Law Preview Scholarships to select members of our entering class.  Lexis-Nexis has generously agreed to help entering students prepare for the unique challenges they will face during their 1L year at Villanova Law by paying the cost of tuition for a law school prep course.  Visit the following URL to see if you meet the scholarship criteria.
