FROM FARM TO VILLANOVA
Buying local, organic, sustainably-produced and fairly traded items is part of Villanova Dining Services commitment to our customers and our community.
Since 2013, Villanova University has been recognized by Fair Trade USA as a "Fair Trade University" for its leadership in supporting and cultivating fair trade initiatives on campus. Villanova University was also awarded membership in 2018 to Farm Forward’s Leadership Circle, a program that recognizes pioneering institutions leveraging their buying power to change the way animals are raised for food.
BUYING LOCAL
Buying local is shown to have health, environmental, economic and social benefits, and it is much more than the selection of local produce we offer. We help support local farmers and their communities all while reducing our carbon footprint by reducing travel.
FAIR TRADE
Dining Services purchases and serves Fair Trade coffee, teas, chocolate and sugar in all of our dining locations. Holy Grounds locations serve Peet's Coffee which is fairly traded. We serve Equal Exchange coffee in our other retail and resident dining operations.
The principles of Fair Trade include: fair price for purchased product, fair labor conditions, direct trade with producer groups, democratic and transparent organizations, investment in community development, and environmental sustainability.
PASTURE-RAISED EGGS
Villanova Dining Services serves Pasture-Raised shelled eggs from Vital Farms which are Certified Humane. This means that our sources always follow strict guidelines in the care and well being of their hens.
