Mark C. Alexander, JD, the Arthur J. Kania Dean of Villanova’s Charles Widger School of Law, will soon be taking the helm in another important leadership role that will influence the future of law education. A seasoned law school administrator, constitutional law scholar and litigator, Dean Alexander was recently named the president-elect of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).

“Being chosen by my peers is one of the greatest honors of my career,” he says. “Choosing to be a lawyer is to choose a path of service, and I look forward to serving the legal education community and my fellow deans.”

Founded in 1900, AALS is a nonprofit made up of more than 175 law schools, whose members enroll most of the nation’s law students and produce the majority of the country’s lawyers and judges, as well as many of its lawmakers. Its mission is to uphold and advance excellence in legal education.

“My parents instilled in me the importance of education and serving others—from a young age they challenged me, as they still do today, to use my gifts to create opportunities for others,” Dean Alexander says.
