1964

Richard Corona ’64 CLAS, a Villanova football player from 1960 until 1963, was selected as a 2020 inductee into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall Of Fame. His 31-year coaching career in Michigan included time spent at seven high schools and three universities.  He has written football coaching articles in national professional periodicals, including the Athletic Journal and Coach & Athlete. Among his many notable achievements, his teams were three-time Michigan state champions (2014, 2017 and 2018) and two-time state runners-up (2002 and 2008).

Latina trailblazer Mari Carmen Aponte ’70 MA was honored in October 2021 for her accomplishments by the White House Fellows Foundation and Association with its highest distinction, the John Gardner Legacy and Leadership Award. A diplomat and attorney with a long list of firsts on her resume, Aponte in 1979, became the first Latina lawyer to serve as a White House Fellow, assisting the US secretary of Housing and Urban Development. And in 2010, she became the first Puerto Rican woman to hold the title of US Ambassador when she was appointed ambassador to El Salvador. Most recently, she was nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as the nation’s next ambassador to Panama.

Thomas Rowe ’70 CLAS was inducted into the New York State Section IV Athletics Hall of Fame on Oct. 23, 2021, during ceremonies in Binghamton, N.Y. Rowe, who was the longtime sports editor for The Evening Sun in Norwich, N.Y., covered a gamut of sporting events, including the Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, Colgate University athletics and local high school sports.

Joseph Frack ’75 VSB received the Kenneth Black Jr. Leadership Award, presented by the Society of Financial Service Professionals.

1976

Terence R. Harris ’76 CLAS, ’93 MA published the holiday romance A Christmas Kiss in Cape May.

E. Michael Stutzke ’76 CLAS has been inducted into the 2021 Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame Class in Orlando, Fla. During his career, he was named Florida's High School Athletic Director of the Year in 2011 and served as the organization’s past president. Currently, he serves as chairman of the Treasure Coast Sports Commission.

1977

Gaetan J. Alfano ’77 CLAS, ’80 CWSL, a partner with Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, was recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for his practice in bet-the-company litigation, commercial litigation, employment, and litigation. He was also named to the 2021 Super Lawyers list in the area of business litigation. Most recently, he was appointed by the City of Philadelphia to investigate allegations of police misconduct.

Deborah M. Lerner ’77 CWSL has been named Best Lawyers’ 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” in Philadelphia for employee benefits law. She will be listed in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Anthony Rollo ’78 CLAS has been recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America and Best Lawyers’ 2022 “Lawyers of the Year.”

1979

Lisa Hunter ’79 CWSL, a partner in and co-chair of the Trusts and Estates and Elder Law practice groups at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP, has been named to the 2021 New York Metro Super Lawyers list. A member of the Estate Planning Council of Nassau County and the New York State and Nassau County bar associations, Hunter serves on the Tax Law and Surrogate’s Court, Estates and Trusts committees of the Nassau County Bar Association.

Domenic Melillo ’79 VSB, the author of the Swords of Valor trilogy and the science fiction novel Einstein's Desk, has released his most recent book, A Major League Love. This is Melillo’s fifth novel with Phase Publishing and his first love story. The fictional story begins at Villanova University in the 1980s and is built around baseball, poetry and family relationships.

Marc Stephen Raspanti ’79 VSB, a partner with Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, was recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for his practice in health care law litigation. He was also ranked by Chambers and Partners USA 2021 in white-collar crime and government investigations and was named to the 2021 Super Lawyers list for white-collar crime. 

Carol Walsh ’79 FCN received the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants  Distinguished Service Award 2020-2021.

Leeanne R. Hay ’80 CLAS published her first book, NPE* A Story Guide for Unexpected DNA Discoveries.

Wayne Marvel ’80 CWSL has been selected for inclusion in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, recognized for excellence in commercial litigation. He is a named partner of national law firm Maron Marvel Bradley Anderson & Tardy, based in Wilmington, Del.

1981

John G. Gaul ’81 CWSL has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, recognized for excellence in mass tort litigation/class action and personal injury litigation on behalf of defendants. He serves as the managing member of the Philadelphia office of national law firm Maron Marvel Bradley Anderson & Tardy, based in Wilmington, Del.

1982

William Gorman ’82 CLAS, lecturer in the Department of History at Monmouth University, recently completed a revised edition of his book American Economic Development From Historical and Contemporary Perspectives, originally published in 2020 by Kendall-Hunt Publishing of Dubuque, Iowa. He previously co-authored a 2017 book, The American Economy, which served as a motivation for this project.

1984

Thomas J. Gravina ’84 VSB was voted the next chairman of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's Board of Trustees, effective Nov. 10, 2021. A member of the board since 2003 and vice chairman since 2015, Gravina is the fourth board chair to serve in this singular role in the institution's history.

1986

Kathleen Marie Brown ’86 CLAS married Kevin Daniel Santry on Aug. 7, 2021, at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Lowell, Mass.

Gregory Cirillo ’86 CWSL of Dilworth Paxson LLP was elected as the firm’s vice chairman.

Melinda Cockeram ’86 CLAS has published her third book, Pregnant Again? A Childbirth & Breastfeeding Refresher. She also continues to teach expectant parents at a Southern California hospital and writes and hosts podcasts for Lamaze International.

Mark Powell, Esq., ’86 CLAS, Lackawanna County, Pa., district attorney, has been appointed by the state Supreme Court to a three-year term on the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board.

1987

Roger (Rick) Grimaldi ’87 CWSL published his first book, FLEX: A Leader’s Guide to Staying Nimble and Mastering Transformative Change in the American Workplace.

1988

Pamela Coyle Brecht ’88 VSB, a partner with Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, was recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for her practice in qui tam law. In addition, she and Marc Stephen Raspanti ’79 VSB co-authored a three-part series published in Compliance Today about differences and similarities in the American and Italian health care systems.

Anthony Naccarato '88 COE had a lot to celebrate in 2021. The president of O’Donnell and Naccarato Structural Engineers marked 40 years in business, received the Arthur P. Pasquarella Leadership in Action Award from the National Kidney Foundation, and was named by Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the Most Admired CEOs of 2021. In praise of Naccarato, his staff told Philadelphia Business Journal: “When push comes to shove, Anthony will always put the company and employees before himself.”

Robert E. Phillips, PhD, ’88 CLAS has been hired as the executive director at Valley Day School, located in Lower Bucks County, a Pennsylvania private academic school designed to serve students with special learning and/or adjustment needs. Prior to this position, Dr. Phillips was the superintendent of schools at Exeter Township School District in Berks County, Pa. He is also serving as a co-facilitator in the Villanova Alumni Management Consulting Industry Career Circle, an opportunity for alumni to participate in networking and professional conversations in the industry.

Phyllis Arena Woods ’88 VSB is the CEO of Ferretti Group, Inc., the largest woman-owned independent broker-dealer on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange by floor presence. She served as the keynote speaker at Case Western Reserve University's Women ​in Economics Club in 2021.

Two Villanovans are leading USA Basketball at the highest level. Sean Ford ’90 CLAS has been the USA Men’s National Team director since 2001, and now Briana Weiss ’09 VSB, ’13 MA has been promoted to director of the USA Women’s National Team after serving as assistant director since 2019.

Both Ford and Weiss have a Villanova hoops background. Back in his college days, Ford was a four-year student manager for the Men’s Basketball program, while Weiss is a former forward on the Women’s Basketball team.

Jeffrey Gostyla ’90 CLAS was named managing partner of Halloran Sage, a law firm with 80 attorneys and offices across Southern New England and a branch in Washington, D.C. Gostyla is past president of the Hartford Chapter of the Villanova University Alumni Association.

W. Bruce Ingram ’90 MA published a book about the evolution of St.Therese’s spirituality, titled Lisieux’s Poet Laureate: Gems From Saint Thérèse's Correspondence. All royalties from this book will be donated to further fund a scholarship established in Ingram’s name at St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington, Del.

1991

Joseph Boyle ’91 CLAS was ordained as a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on June 12, 2021, by Archbishop Nelson Perez. In the process of formation, he earned a master’s in Theology from St. Charles Seminary with magna cum laude honors. Deacon Boyle has been assigned to his family's home parish of St. Mary Magdalen in Media, Pa.

Eric J. Haner ’91 CLAS of Louisville, Ky., was appointed by Gov. Andy Beshear to fill the vacancy in Circuit Court, Division One in Jefferson County, Ky. Judge Haner served as a district court judge since 2013, having first been appointed and then elected in 2014 and 2018.

Christopher Lucien ’91 COE was promoted to section chief in the Bureau of Release Prevention/Discharge Prevention Program in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, where he has worked for the last 30 years. He also became a Certified Public Manager in 2017.

Charles Van Horn ’91 CLAS was awarded 2022 Lawyer of the Year for litigation—real estate in Atlanta by Best Lawyers. He was also recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

1992

Peter Gillen ’92 CLAS, a longtime social studies teacher at Taunton High School in Taunton, Mass., has been recognized by the Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a recipient of the 2021 Yale Educator Award after being nominated by one of his former students as an outstanding educator who supports and inspires his students to perform at high levels and to achieve excellence. He was one of 21 counselors and 50 teachers selected out of more than 300 nominees, who represent 38 states and 17 countries.

Elizabeth Boyle-Donahue, Esq., ’93 MA joined the faculty in the English Department of Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in Pennsauken, N.J., in September 2021 after teaching eighth grade for 11 years at St. Margaret School in Narberth, Pa.

Amy Cameron ’93 VSB was named by CUNA Mutual Group as the company’s new chief investment officer.

As one of the 30 Business Insurance Women to Watch for 2021, Kathy Galia ’93 FCN, senior vice president and general manager of Clinical Solutions for Paradigm, has distinguished herself as a genuine patient advocate, groundbreaker in her field and leader in health care. Last year, she managed the launch of an innovative approach to patient care to give injured workers with COVID-19 and their families the very best chance at an optimal recovery.

Jacqueline Maguire ’96 CLAS has become the special agent in charge of the Philadelphia Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She previously headed the Criminal Division of the FBI’s New York office.

James F. Marrion ’96 VSB was recently recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for his practice in product liability litigation.

Jenelle Purpura ’96 FCN was promoted to center administrator at Florham Park Endoscopy Center in Florham Park, N.J.

Megan Starace Ben’Ary, JD, ’97 CLAS, who is currently working at McGlinchey Stafford PLLC, has been mentioned in the 2021 edition of the Washington, D.C., Super Lawyers list, recognized for her work in business litigation.

Sean Heeran ’97 VSB, a captain in the New York City Fire Department, and his family held a memorial in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., to remember the victims of 9/11, particularly Heeran’s brother Charlie who was killed in the World Trade Center on that day. Celebrating the memorial Mass was the Rev. William J. Wallace, OSA, a former professor at Villanova. Other Villanova alumni in attendance included Keith DeMatteis ’83 VSB and Kevin DeMatteis ’86 CLAS.


Maureen Petrosky ’97 CLAS, an entertaining and lifestyle expert, appeared on the Today show in July 2021 in support of her third book, Zero Proof Drinks & More, which features 100 recipes for mocktails and low-alcohol cocktails.

Thomas Kelty Jr. ’98 CLAS and his wife, Rhiannon, were awarded the St. Augustine Medal by Bishop Frank Caggiano for their volunteer work in the Diocese of Bridgeport, Conn.


Joseph Pickel, PhD, ’98 CLAS of the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been elected a 2021 fellow of the American Chemical Society. He was recognized for his contributions to improved laboratory safety and operational processes and to the modernization of laboratory facilities.

Brian Edlin ’00 CWSL, a partner with the law firm of Wall Gray Jones & Carlton, PLLC, was appointed by the North Carolina Speaker of the House Tim Moore to the Umstead Act Unfair Competition Panel. Edlin will serve on the panel through June 30, 2025.

Matthew Nawn ’00 COE has been serving as the acting director for Capital Projects at the Federal Transit Administration in Washington, D.C., since April 2021. In this role, he is responsible for oversight of more than $2 billion of public transportation projects throughout the US.

Douglas K. Rosenblum ’00 VSB, ’03 CWSL, a partner at Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, was recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America for his practice in criminal defense: white-collar. He was also named to the 2021 Super Lawyers list in the area of white-collar criminal defense.

Jennifer Sherlock ’01 CLAS, founder and CEO of Jenna Communications, Inc., was featured in the September 2021 issue of Philadelphia Style Magazine as one of the city’s most “Dynamic Women.” In addition to running her own public relations firm, Sherlock hosts the podcast Live Without a Net and contributed to the book Significant Women, which is a collection of stories and reflections from accomplished business leaders.

Zachary Wright ’09 MA has authored a book, Dismantling a Broken System: Actions to Bridge the Opportunity, Equity, and Justice Gap in American Education.

Josh Sims ’09 CLAS is revving up his career with some fast-paced assignments. The Communication major made a name for himself professionally in Charlotte, N.C., where he spent six years covering auto racing and other sports before going national, joining FOX Sports in July 2021 as the newest NASCAR reporter. For his first interview, Sims sat down with champion driver Joey Logano.

Michelle Keating-Sibel ’10 FCN, ’13 MSN earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from West Chester University in May 2019. She works as a certified registered nurse practitioner and implementation manager for Tandigm Health and serves as a visiting professor of Health Policy and Law at Chamberlain University. She resides in Collegeville, Pa., with her husband and two sons.

William O'Hara ’10 CLAS married Melanie Wood on July 31, 2021, in Chicago, Ill.

Meghan Price Travaline ’11 CLAS, ’15 CWSL and her husband, Michael, welcomed a daughter, Siena Joan, on Oct. 19, 2020.

Lauren Robinson ’12 FCN has accepted a position as an acute care nurse practitioner with Jefferson Endocrine Associates in Philadelphia, Pa. For the past six years, she worked at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital as a critical care nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, which functioned as the COVID-19 ICU during the pandemic.

Alexis Fede ’13 CLAS and Thomas McJoynt-Griffith ’13 VSB were married at St. Thomas of Villanova Church on July 23, 2021.

2015

Diamond S. Holland ’15 CLAS won a 2021 Mid-Atlantic regional Emmy award for her work as a camera operator on the television show FTW Philly—Autisarians.

2016

Jonathan Zhau Wan ’16 CLAS and Olivia Marie Eltz ’17 COE were married at St. Thomas of Villanova Church on Oct. 2, 2021, in a ceremony officiated by University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, ’75 CLAS. Eltz earned her master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 2021 and is currently employed as an engineer at L3Harris Technologies. Wan is currently serving as a captain in the US Army JAG Corps.

2018

Playwright Marissa Kennedy ’18 MA explores the story of a lesser-known Revolutionary War-era patriot in Meet James Forten, a first-person theatrical presentation for the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia. The piece, which debuted Nov. 11, 2021, brings awareness to Forten, who was a Black man born free in 1766 in Philadelphia and made contributions to education, abolitionism and civil rights. The production aims to show us “how much we can accomplish as a nation if all of us work together across cultural divides,” says the Theatre alum.

Meghan (Quinn) McKee ’21 MA received a grant from the Phoenixville Community Education Foundation to incorporate engineering into her Latin classes at Phoenixville Area Middle School. Through constructing an aqueduct, her students will understand how the ancient Romans were pioneers in the field of engineering.
