A number of faculty development opportunities exist through the Office of Education Abroad.
Seminars By Study Abroad Providers
First and foremost are the faculty seminars offered by study abroad program providers. These providers, usually membership-based consortia, rotate both the locations and the subjects of these seminars. Three outstanding options are listed below:
- Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE): “International Faculty Development Seminars: Transform Your Class, Your Department, Yourself.”
- Institute for the International Education of Students (IES)
- Brethren Colleges Abroad (BCA):
Participation in these seminars is by nomination of the OEA, and places are limited. Please contact the OEA if you are interested.
Education Abroad Conferences
Faculty also are invited to attend any of the annual education abroad professional conferences with OEA staff. The OEA covers expenses for these conferences, but obvious budgetary constraints mean that, like the faculty development seminars, only a limited number of places are available each year. The primary organizations to which this office belongs are:
- NAFSA: The Association of International Educators
- The Forum on Education Abroad
- Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE)
- Institute for the International Education of Students (IES)
- Pennsylvania Council on International Education
International Travel Funding Request Form
A limited number of travel grants are available to faculty and staff who are traveling on behalf of the University and whose travel aligns with OEA program development. Grants are typically limited to $500. Please complete this form to request consideration for funding.
Finally, the OEA maintains contacts with an exhaustive network of universities around the world. Please use us as a resource for making contact with those universities, whether for research possibilities, opportunities for publication, or locations for sabbaticals.
